How to Spot a Fake Job Advert in Kenya
Job scams target people who are searching hard for work. Knowing the warning signs protects your money and your personal data.
Red flags
- You are asked to pay. Real employers do not charge for interviews, uniforms, training or âprocessingâ.
- Contact is only by personal email or WhatsApp with no company website or office address.
- The pay is unrealistic for the work, or the job needs no skills or interview.
- You are rushed to decide or send money today.
- They ask for sensitive documents early, such as ID copies, bank PINs or M-Pesa PINs.
Check before you apply
Search the company name, look for an official website and social pages, and find the vacancy on the employerâs own careers page. Call the office using a number you found yourself.
If you suspect a scam
Stop contact and do not send money. Report it to the platform that showed the advert, and to the police or the Communications Authority if you lost money. You can also report any listing on RemoteKazi using the link on its page.
